So, apparently flying saucers are from Romania! Who knew? https://newatlas.com/adifo-flying-saucer-romanian/58999/
So, the way things stand right now is we have a nearly perfect storm of an economic disaster brewing due to multiple factors:
1. Reduced controls on banking and markets
2. An overheated economy driven by a tax cut that has tremendously increased the national debt
3. The Federal Reserve continuing to pump money when it should be slowing things down
4. Several different warning signs in evidence, including debt inversion
5. A trade war
Let's hope I (and the others) are wrong.
And also because Trump knows his only chance of winning re-election in 2020 is a strong economy. And, being Trump, he is willing to sacrifice the long-term in service of his short-term goals.
Except, also being Trump, he is separately engaged in trade wars with multiple countries, including allies like Mexico and Canada and non-allies but big trading partners like China.
This is all bad juju, but another clue something bad is coming is the Inverted Yield Curve. https://www.forbes.com/sites/francescoppola/2019/05/30/history-tells-us-why-the-fed-should-not-ignore-the-inverted-yield-curve/
… the economy somehow got even hotter. I'd be looking really stupid right now, except now some people with actual credentials are starting to say we are looking at a full-on crash!
From the center-right: https://www.politico.com/agenda/story/2019/05/29/the-feds-dangerous-new-normal-000902
If you go looking you'll find these warnings popping up everywhere. Why? Well, basically, because we removed nearly all the controls put in since the great stock market crash of 1929. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wall_Street_Crash_of_1929
Only what happened was the GOP passed a crazy tax cut and Trump pushed the Federal Reserve into pumping even more cash into what was already a hot economy. End result, things got WAY overheated and, instead of expecting a recession, I started expecting a mini-depression. I moved all of my retirement accounts to bonds and money-market funds and warned everyone I knew to do the same.
But in 2018 and 1st quarter 2019 Trump kept pushing the Fed and the tax cut pushed the stock market and …
I've been personally predicting a recession for some time. In fact, I'm surprised it didn't happen last year.
Why? Well, just gut feeling really, plus the experience of having lived through so many downturns since I became aware such things existed in 1970. I've studied economics, but I'm really not qualified to make those calls based on actual analysis.
(Mind you, given how often actual economists miss the boat maybe their analysis ain't so good either?)
Anyway, 2017 just felt ready.
Politics, Mueller Report
This article by David Cole in the NY Review of Books is the only thing you need to read today about the Mueller Report: An Indictment in All But Name. https://www.nybooks.com/articles/2019/05/23/robert-mueller-report-trump-indictment/
"The report establishes beyond doubt that a foreign rival engaged in a systematic effort to subvert our democracy."
"The results are devastating for Trump. The report portrays a consistent pattern of deception and repeated efforts to impede the Mueller investigation."
Politics, Question for Trump Supporters
And I seriously believe your answer to that question tells me a lot about your priorities and your awareness of how criminal gangs operate.
Wait, how did criminal gangs come into this? Well, my hypothetical just described your average mob boss or gang leader. If you think I was describing Trump, then maybe you are right; but not because I was describing Trump specifically.
Politics, Question for Trump Supporters
A lot of people don't like him because he's a criminal, but you aren't so sure he actually is one. Plus you've heard he's nice to old ladies and he supports community events and the people working for him are always talking about what a great guy he is.
Then more and more evidence comes to light about his criminal activities. Do you:
a. Say you still support him because you like what he does?
b. Think he should go to jail anyway?
Serious question here.
Politics, Question for Trump Supporters
This is aimed at Trump Supporters. Not dyed-in-the-wool magahats or racists or 'trumpists', but the people who say things like, "I don't really like Trump all that much, but I support him because he's doing things I like."
So, leaving aside whether Trump is REALLY doing those things you like or what I think about those things, let's try a hypothetical, OK?
Let's suppose there's a criminal living and operating in your neighborhood…
'AI' is a misnomer. Most people hear 'Artificial Intelligence' and think it means a machine that thinks. In truth, 'Artificial Intelligence' as currently implemented is more like 'Artificial Flavoring' – in other words, not anything like real intelligence, or thinking, at all.
But AI can sort of stand in for the real thing in certain narrowly constructed circumstances if we aren't overly critical about it. AI is the Otter Pop of thinking.
The statement Robert Mueller gave today was strange; very carefully couched phrases similar to the carefully constructed sentences of the report. And, while we all know what he was saying in the report and in today's presser, both left wiggle room for those who want to pretend he wasn't saying those things.
I think it is very telling how he doesn't want to testify before Congress, under oath. Because he wouldn't get to provide that wiggle room under sharp questioning.

"Minimal perfect hash functions are widely used for memory efficient storage and fast retrieval of items from static sets, such as words in natural languages, reserved words in programming languages or interactive systems, universal resource locations (URLs) in Web search engines, or item sets in data mining techniques."
They are aiming to support billions of keys with perfect hashes.
Anyone who agrees with Trump on this now, but EVER supported the Republicans going hammer and tongs after Clinton back in the day, is also a garbage person making garbage arguments.
Most of the Republican Party? I'm looking at you right now.
Garbage. Hypocritical garbage.
I'm sorry I ever cast a vote your way and you can be certain I never will again.
Trump's people say they aren't going to provide subpoenaed documents or testify because, basically, the Democrats are being mean to them. Oh, they wrap it up in all kinds of garbage reasoning about playing politics, but that's what they are saying.
Two problems with that. (1) The US Constitution specifically grants the power to investigate these very things to Congress, AS A POLITICAL TOOL, and (2) if they had nothing to hide they'd be on deck with their right hands up.
