Website accounts, paper forms, questionnaires; all these things which ask your gender identity – it seems like every one I've seen in the last year (with the exception of the census) have added 'other' or a similar checkbox for you to specify something except 'male' or 'female'.

Leaving me wondering: why ask at all?

I mean, unless it's for a doctor or something else where gender might actually matter, why do they need to know?

Why isn't there a checkbox for "None of your business?"
