Waiting to board an Aer Lingus flight to Dublin. Final destination of this leg of the trip is Birmingham UK and Tolkien 2019. tolkien2019.com/

Next week it's back to Dublin and the 77th SF Worldcon. dublin2019.com/

Made it to Birmingham, but the last part of the trip was a horror. More later when I've had some sleep.

It is morning here in Birmingham at the Tolkien 2019 conference. I'm sipping a cappuccino in the conference hotel bar and planning my day.

My hotel is a craphole and Birmingham seems designed to get you lost in a maze of one-way streets and everything is too expensive. But I have a tasty cappuccino and will spend the next two days talking about Middle Earth. So it balances out I guess.

Corrections to the previous toots remove in before Tolkien. Rail is Rauk.

Trip back from Burlington to Manchester airport was much easier than the trip down; aside from a moment of panic when I couldn't find the rental car keys at the carpark. (The were in my suitcase.) Now on my flight to Dublin.

Someone on my flight received a very bad news phone call right before boarding. It's difficult to see anyone in such distress and know there is nothing you can do to help. Worse to be them though.

Stopped for curry cheese fries at Barack Obama Plaza on the road to Limerick. The way you do.

Tmorrow I'll be in Killorglin for the Puck Fair. More as it happens, but it's already getting too late to go in tonight and I'm pretty tired. puckfair.ie/

When you buy something on impulse, but have no idea how you are going to get it home.

Just woke up from the best sleep I've had since I left home. So of course I feel like crap.

I'm in Galway after driving around the Ring of Kerry. Sorry, no pictures yet because I can't connect my phone to the B&B WiFi. Maybe tomorrow?

In any case I was under the impression Galway is a walkable city, but that is definitely not true. Also, I spent most of my time since getting here fixing my luggage, which broke on me two days ago.

I'm in Dublin at the Clayton Hotel bar waiting for my room to be ready. Any of my mutuals nearby?

Finally got my room and it's definitely the nicest I've stayed in the whole trip. Not as much character as Murphy's Farmhouse, but loads more comfort.

Since I finally have WiFi for my phone, here are some pictures from yesterday's trip around the Ring of Kerry.

Stopped into the operations office to check in and immediately got pressed into service as a desk manager. I guess I won't be joining the pub crawl untill quite late, if at all.

Because of working in the ops office I missed the pub crawl, though I did run into a old friend when I got back to the hotel.

Had a crazy morning running con operations at one of the venues. Now relaxing before I go to a couple of program items, grab dinner, and then run ops again tonight.

Wow. That's an acceptance speech! She started out by calling Campbell a facsist, then moved on to something more incinderary.
