Made it to Birmingham, but the last part of the trip was a horror. More later when I've had some sleep.
It is morning here in Birmingham at the Tolkien 2019 conference. I'm sipping a cappuccino in the conference hotel bar and planning my day.
My hotel is a craphole and Birmingham seems designed to get you lost in a maze of one-way streets and everything is too expensive. But I have a tasty cappuccino and will spend the next two days talking about Middle Earth. So it balances out I guess.
Drinking a Rail: a British beer smoked like a German raushbeer.
InTolkien 2019 banquet is getting started.
Corrections to the previous toots remove in before Tolkien. Rail is Rauk.
A rouge's gallery of Tolkien illustrators. Note Alan Lee on the end.
Trip back from Burlington to Manchester airport was much easier than the trip down; aside from a moment of panic when I couldn't find the rental car keys at the carpark. (The were in my suitcase.) Now on my flight to Dublin.
Someone on my flight received a very bad news phone call right before boarding. It's difficult to see anyone in such distress and know there is nothing you can do to help. Worse to be them though.
Stopped for curry cheese fries at Barack Obama Plaza on the road to Limerick. The way you do.
Smithwicks Red and Irish Lamb Stew for dinner.
When you buy something on impulse, but have no idea how you are going to get it home.
Some random pictures of Ireland.
More random pictures of Ireland.
Just woke up from the best sleep I've had since I left home. So of course I feel like crap.
