If someone tells you Trump's tariffs are being paid by China, that is the only clue you need to know they (a) have no clue what tariffs actually are and/or (b) have no clue about microeconomics and pricing signals.
Regarding (b): if US consumer prices on Chinese goods rise due to tariffs, substituting goods from other countries means those countries can raise their prices to just under Chinese prices plus tariffs. Substituting US-made goods? Sorry, no US manufacturers are playing.
